🌿 Dracaena fragrans 'Anita' — Anita Dragon Tree

Dracaena fragrans 'Anita', often referred to as Dracaena Anita or Anita Dragon Tree, is a graceful, elegant cultivar of the Dracaena fragrans species, prized for its soft, arching foliage and lush, tree-like form. Unlike other Dracaena varieties with stiff or spiky leaves, Anita features long, narrow, deep green leaves that grow in a rosette formation and drape gently from slim, cane-like stems, giving the plant a weeping, almost bamboo-like appearance. It grows upright with multiple slender trunks and tufts of foliage at different heights, creating a layered, fountain-like effect. Native to tropical Africa, this plant is a favourite for indoor spaces due to its neat, airy structure, tolerance for low light, and air-purifying properties. Dracaena Anita offers a softer aesthetic than many other Dracaenas, making it ideal for modern interiors, offices, or anywhere a subtle, leafy presence is desired. With minimal care needs and excellent adaptability, it’s a brilliant choice for novice plant owners and seasoned collectors alike.

☀️ Light Requirements

  • Indoors: Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates lower light levels well.

  • Too much light: Direct midday sun can scorch the leaves.

  • Too little light: Causes slower growth and may result in thinner foliage over time.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 18–25°C (65–77°F)

  • Minimum: Keep above 12°C (54°F); avoid exposure to cold draughts.

  • Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. Will tolerate average indoor conditions but appreciates occasional misting or a humidity tray in drier environments.

💧 Watering Needs

  • Watering routine: Allow the top 2–5 cm of soil to dry between waterings.

  • Tip: Water less frequently in winter; always use pots with good drainage.

  • Water quality: Sensitive to fluoride – use filtered, distilled, or rainwater if possible to avoid leaf tip burn.

🪴 Soil & Repotting

  • Soil type: Light, well-draining potting mix. A mix of standard houseplant compost with added perlite is ideal.

  • pH preference: Slightly acidic to neutral (6.0–7.0)

  • Repotting: Every 2–3 years, or when the plant becomes rootbound. Best done in spring.

🌱 Feeding

  • Growing season (spring–summer): Feed monthly with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertiliser.

  • Dormant season (autumn–winter): Fertiliser can be reduced or stopped.

✂️ Pruning & Maintenance

  • Pruning: Trim back leggy or sparse stems to promote bushier growth. Pruning encourages new shoots below the cut.

  • Leaf care: Remove any yellow or brown leaves and wipe foliage with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain sheen.

  • Growth habit tip: Can be pruned to create a multi-stemmed shape, or left to grow into a tall, tree-like form.

🌾 Propagation

  • Stem cuttings: Use healthy cane sections and root them in water or moist compost.

  • Air layering: Works well for older, established plants.

  • Note: Patience is key — rooting can take several weeks.

🐛 Pests & Problems

  • Pests: Watch for spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects.

  • Symptoms: Discoloured leaves, webbing, or sticky residue may indicate pests.

  • Treatment: Remove pests manually or treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

  • Common issues:

    • Leaf tips turning brown: Often due to dry air or poor water quality

    • Yellowing leaves: Typically a sign of overwatering or inconsistent care

🧤 Toxicity & Safety

  • Toxicity: Mildly toxic to cats and dogs if ingested; can cause vomiting, drooling, or appetite loss.

  • Pet-friendly tip: Keep out of reach of curious pets who may nibble on leaves.

🏡 Indoor Care Highlights

  • Excellent choice for softening interior spaces with its flowing, leafy form.

  • Suitable for offices, living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways.

  • Effective at removing toxins such as formaldehyde and benzene from indoor air.

  • Adapts well to a variety of light conditions, making it ideal for almost any room.

  • Works beautifully in minimalist, contemporary, or nature-inspired interior schemes.

He falls fast & hard, but she’s trying to slip away..
Sadie Brown has herself so thin taking care of everything around her she’s on the verge of losing her college figure skating scholarship. She’s juggling being the parent figure to her two younger brothers (alcoholic father), working 2 jobs, figure skating, college classes, & trying to have somewhat of a social life. So to maintain her figure skating skill, Sadie skates early in the morning before anyone should be at the rink… Rhys Koteskiy, college hockey captain, and son of famous former NHL player Maximilian Koteskiy. Thinks he’s on top of the world in his growing career, until one day he takes a nasty hit that leaves emotionally unable to get back onto the ice without complete panic. When he decides to try and take control at the rink alone so others don’t find out about his anxious state, he runs into the angsty figure skater… Their paths keep connecting from the morning skates where they decide to share the ice from Sadie’s brothers participating in the youth hockey program Rhys helps out with. Sharing music playlists turns into sharing each others bodies for each others personal gain. But what happens when the guy falls first and the girl wants none of the emotional strings? Or when lawyers become involved with Sadie’s situation of her brothers? Buckle up because it’s about to become quite icy! 📚 College Hockey Romance 📚 Forced Proximity 📚 Single Parent / Sister 📚 Angsty!! 📚 Secret Friends With Benefits 📚 He falls first & HARD 📚 Dual POV This was my first read by Peyton Corrine & omgsh I loved it! Such an emotional read covering heavy topics of male anxiety / mental health & the Cinderella sister. A beautiful approach to such real everyday topics that don’t always get talked about. I can’t wait to read more of her work!!

Unsteady by Peyton Corinne
Format: Kindle
» The blue - Gracie Abrams « 0:00 ─〇───── 5:00 ↻ ◁ II ▷ ↺ · The way I feel about her is real, so deep it feels like a cord looped from inside me to her, tethering me to her. · This series is everything to me! The way Peyton Corinne incorporates mental health into all of her books is so special and important. The representation is always so good, and you can clearly tell that she puts a lot of effort and research into making things accurate. This book was so insanely addicting and fast-paced. It was a super quick and easy read, and I always thought about it when I wasn't actively reading it. Rhys Koteskiy, the man that you are. I'm going to be honest: at first, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this book because it was very much insta-love for him, but I think it was drawn out very well, and I also think it worked for his character development (iykyk). The way that he treated Sadie and showed her that constant reassurance that he was never leaving was so special. Not only was he a great love interest, but his healing from page 1 to 360 was incredible, and I think that if you're an athlete who has gone through injury and/or is struggling with an injury, the representation is HUGE. To be completely honest, I don't have much to say about her, but I absolutely loved Sadie, and I felt for her so much! This last note honestly doesn't have anything to do with the book or the author, but the comparison between Binding 13/Johnny and Shannon does a huge disservice to the book and creates a false expectation for the reader. All of this being said, I highly recommend this book and will certainly be reading all of Peyton's work!

The Best Starter Writing Book Out There
Format: Kindle
Anyone who's serious about writing a book needs to start here. Gardner's advice on maintaining the "fictional dream" for the reader--that is, suspension of disbelief, immersion--is top notch. Part I, the discussion and overview of fiction, is engaging and helps contextualize the advice presented: where on the spectrum of the written word we are trying to fit into, what it aims to accomplish, what it needs to accomplish that, and how we go about creating it as writers. Part II covers the common pitfalls and offers technical advice. Style and structure are covered, with especially good lessons on diction and proper sequencing of signals in the test (stimulus, involuntary reaction, voluntary reaction--which may be thought of as cause & effect and is explained in greater depth in Dwight V. Swain's book as Motivation-Reaction Units), with solid explanations for why mistakes here harm the fictional dream and why it is important to get it right. Also covered are the "clumsy writing" mistakes such as characters looking in mirrors to shoehorn description into the text, as well as melodrama, which relies on cheap sleight of hand in writing as opposed to real drama. I loved the section on vocabulary, which explained the problem with writing-by-thesaurus while emphasizing the importance of expanding ordinary vocabulary that include more uncommon words (such as technical architectural terms like "lintel," which, while uncommon, are a benefit to writing) as well as brand names. What this book will do: - Give you a good overview of fiction - Help you understand what fiction tries to accomplish, why, and how - Explain the common clumsy mistakes and how to avoid them - Provide you exercises - Entertain you with Gardner's engaging writing voice (so it doesn't feel like a manual) What this book won't do: - Help you understand nonfiction and how to write it - Cover the common mistakes in-depth - Give you genre-specific advice - Cover anything related to self-publishing - Explain the business of writing - Take the place of critiquers, beta readers, or editors This is a great intro to writing craft book. It should, at the very least, help you understand what you're trying to do and identify your weaknesses so that you may find more narrowly tailored resources to help you. I find myself referring to the passages I highlighted quite often, both in the paperback and the Kindle version. FWIW, the Kindle version is now searchable. When I first bought it, it was not. The search function is a *great* help.

This is a must read for ALL writers, not just fiction writers!
Format: Paperback
This is a must read for ALL writers, not just fiction writers! Although, in places, a bit technical, for any writer, not just new writers, for anyone who wants to master their craft, this is a must read book. What can be said about Gardner that hasn't been said yet? One of the best books on writing about writing that I have read. Comparable to Stephen King's, On Writing. Yes, it is that good. In Part I Gardner lays out a compelling treatise about the genre of fiction, what it is and why it is important. In Part II he discusses the how-to of writing good fiction, where he talks about common errors, technique and plotting at length. One of the benefits from reading The Art of Fiction is that it gives the reader a crash course in literature, who many of us that come from a Science, Technical, Engineering and Math (STEM) background are sorely lacking in. This said a writer who has grown up in the sciences, or engineering, or business worlds will find this book very useful in "catching up" a bit to our friends who have read all of classics and can retell significant scenes as though they were there. Again, this is a must (must) read for ALL writers, not just fiction writers.

Format: Hardcover
The book itself is excellent, very helpful with lots of specific information. I was disappointed (one star) that the used hardcover edition I ordered arrived as the paperback edition, though in very good condition.
